[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Son Seon-hee] Kim Bu-gyeom, the nominee for Prime Minister, said on the 19th, "I will prepare to respond (at the National Assembly confirmation hearing) by finding ways to help the people who have been struggling and exhausted for a long time due to COVID-19."
On the morning of the same day, Kim met with reporters on his first commute to the Financial Supervisory Service Training Institute in Jongno-gu, Seoul, where the confirmation hearing preparation office was set up, and made these remarks.
Kim, who officially started work for the first time that day, will begin full-scale preparations for the confirmation hearing together with the Prime Minister's Office confirmation hearing preparation team. Kim said, "I will accurately consult with relevant officials and experts to see if there are policies that provide practical help to those who are struggling and distressed in various parts of our society, and will announce the government's new stance."
Meanwhile, Jeju Governor Won Hee-ryong caused a stir by directly addressing Kim as "hyung" (older brother) on his social media the day before, asking, "Are you confident in revising the policy direction?" and saying, "If you are not confident, I don't know why you are taking the prime minister position." Governor Won has a special connection with Kim, having led the reformist faction movement together during the 16th general election as part of the then Grand National Party (predecessor of the People Power Party).
However, Kim refrained from commenting on this, saying, "This is not the place to give a different answer."
