Seoul City Provides Up to 10 Million KRW Support Per Agricultural Machine

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] Seoul City announced on the 19th that to alleviate difficulties caused by the aging agricultural workforce and labor shortages and to increase productivity and income for farms, Seoul City and NongHyup will support up to 10 million KRW per farm for the purchase of agricultural machinery such as agricultural tillers and power sprayers by farmers in the Seoul area.

The support targets registered agricultural operators residing in Seoul who have cultivated farmland located in Seoul for more than one year, and one type of machinery per farm will be supported. If the purchased machinery exceeds the support amount, the applicant farm must cover the difference.

The support procedure consists of four steps: application for farmer support → selection of supported farmers through the Seoul City selection committee → purchase and receipt of agricultural machinery by farmers → application for subsidy payment by farmers.

Applications are accepted at local NongHyup branches within Seoul until May 18. Considering factors such as applicant age, whether the farm head is female, farming scale, and organic certification status, Seoul City will finalize the selection of support recipients through the selection committee and individually notify the results on June 15.

Farmers selected as support recipients must submit the ‘Seoul City Agricultural Machinery Support Recipient Confirmation’ to the machinery supplier, complete the purchase, and then apply for the subsidy payment with the required documents at the local NongHyup (head office).

Kim Ui-seung, Director of Seoul City Economic Policy Office, said, “We hope this will provide practical help to farms struggling with the aging agricultural workforce and labor shortages by reducing labor and increasing productivity.” Lee Dae-yeop, Head of the Seoul Regional Headquarters of NongHyup Central Association, said, “Through this support project, we hope to ease the burden of purchasing agricultural machinery for Seoul farmers and reduce inconveniences caused by labor shortages, thereby improving farm productivity. We will continue to manage the project implementation process in cooperation with Seoul City.”
