[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Yongsan-gu (Mayor Seongjanghyun) is launching full-scale program operations this month at ‘Yongsan Cheongnyeon Jium,’ a space created to support sustainable relationship building and activities for youth.
This year’s main projects at Cheongnyeon Jium include ▲Connectors: People Who Want to Connect Despite COVID-19 ▲Addition Project ▲Jium Laboratory ▲Yongsan Youth Workshop ▲Jiumtopia ▲Jium Forest, among others.
The initiative begins with Connectors, designed to encourage connections among youth whose interactions were cut off due to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
Connectors is a project supporting community activities based on youth interests. Participation was open until the 14th, with 48 teams applying.
Among these, 8 teams will be selected for support.
The activity period for the first half of the year is from May to July. Selected teams will receive an activity fund of 750,000 KRW and free use of the Cheongnyeon Jium space up to 4 times. Participants for the second half will be recruited in August.
The Addition Project involves youth themselves contemplating and solving local issues experienced in daily life, documenting the process through planning research and content creation.
Participants will be recruited in May, with 6 teams selected to carry out the project until October.
Jium Laboratory, under the concept of ‘My Own Activity Experiment,’ utilizes the Cheongnyeon Jium space to share interests and talents among local youth. Six contents such as individual or group cultural and artistic exhibitions and lectures will be selected, with support provided for necessary space, equipment, and refreshments. Each session accommodates about 10 participants.
The Yongsan Youth Workshop program, conducted in collaboration with local workshops, will be held 3 to 4 times each in July and October. It is designed to support smart home life in line with the Home+Economy trend. Each session will have 10 participants, and material costs will be supported. Details on lectures and schedules will be announced via Cheongnyeon Jium’s social media (SNS).
Jiumtopia is also operated for youth who want to learn cultural and artistic content production. Experts in each field will conduct 3 to 4 classes on topics such as ‘Phone Camera Photo Exhibition’ and ‘Instagram Toon Production.’
Participants will be recruited starting in June.
Additionally, programs such as ‘Zero Base Community Starter’ for beginners in youth community activities and ‘Jium Forest: Mind and Body Health Workshop’ to overcome COVID blues will be operated together.
Located near Yongsan Station, Yongsan Cheongnyeon Jium is the largest youth space in Seoul, equipped with a mini cinema, exhibition hall, book lounge, healing room, and shared kitchen. It is open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekdays (until 5 p.m. on Saturdays), but currently operates with one-hour reduced hours due to social distancing measures.
Any youth can use the facilities. All programs are free. For more details, check Cheongnyeon Jium’s Instagram, blog, and KakaoTalk channel. Joining the Cheongnyeon Jium membership offers more diverse benefits.
Seongjanghyun, Mayor of Yongsan-gu, said, “I hope Yongsan Cheongnyeon Jium becomes a space where youth exhausted by COVID-19 can rest comfortably, share their concerns, and nurture their dreams for the future.” He added, “We will firmly establish a support system for youth based on this hub.”
