From the 24th, 'Direct Transaction Market' Opens at Hosu Park... Concerns Over Rapid Increase in Confirmed Cases
[Asia Economy Reporter La Young-cheol] A total of 21 additional COVID-19 cases were confirmed over the weekend and holidays in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province.
According to Goyang City on the 18th, 2 cases were confirmed on the afternoon of the 17th, and as of 4 p.m. on the same day, 19 cases were confirmed, totaling 21 positive COVID-19 cases.
By cause, 3 cases were due to contact with confirmed patients from other regions, 1 case from school contact, 4 cases from workplace infections, 4 cases from family transmission, 3 cases from acquaintance contact, and 6 cases are still under investigation for infection routes.
By region, there were 9 cases in Deogyang-gu, 6 cases in Ilsandong-gu, 5 cases in Ilsanseo-gu, and 1 case from other regions.
Among students attending two high schools in the area, 3 additional cases were confirmed: 1 in Goyang City, 1 in Hanam City, and 1 in Gimpo City, with a cumulative total of 13 confirmed cases including 2 family members.
These schools have partially shifted to remote classes and entered a two-week vacation, and 808 students and staff tested negative.
Additionally, 8 confirmed cases including related persons occurred at one workplace in Goyang City, with 21 testing negative and 2 still undergoing tests.
Furthermore, on the 17th, 2 confirmed cases were reported at Eunpyeong District and 1 at Paju City Public Health Center, respectively.
Recently, with an average of about 20 confirmed cases daily across various parts of Goyang, a direct transaction market for agricultural products and flowers is scheduled to open at the Lake Park Goyang Flower Exhibition Hall square starting from the 24th, raising concerns about a large-scale group infection.
Meanwhile, as of 4 p.m. on the same day, the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Goyang City is 2,667, with 2,570 confirmed cases among Goyang citizens (2,487 domestic infections and 83 overseas infections).
