April 20 Disabled Persons Day Commemoration 'Ontact Disabled Festival' Held... World’s First Visually Impaired Marimbist Performance and More 'A Place to Enjoy Together'
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Songpa-gu (Mayor Park Seong-su) will hold the ‘2021 Ontact Disabled Festival’ at 2 p.m. on the 20th in the main auditorium of the district office in celebration of Disabled Persons Day.
This event was organized to commemorate the 41st Disabled Persons Day on April 20th and to provide a time of communication and empathy for people with disabilities who are experiencing social isolation and loneliness due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.
The Songpa-gu Council for the Development of Welfare for the Disabled (Chairman Kim Jin-sook) is hosting the event, with about 20 welfare institutions and organizations for the disabled participating both online and offline.
The event will begin with videos of COVID-19 overcoming activities by welfare institutions and organizations for the disabled, followed by a commemorative ceremony, awards for the local life overcoming essay contest for the disabled, and congratulatory performances.
In particular, the congratulatory performance will feature Jeon Kyung-ho, the world’s first visually impaired marimbist, presenting high-level pieces such as “Flight of the Bumblebee.”
Additionally, communication expert CEO Kim Chang-ok will give a special lecture on the theme “Communication Rules in the Pandemic Era.”
He will suggest ways of communication that can coexist with the local community and convey encouragement to people with disabilities and residents exhausted by COVID-19.
Furthermore, the district plans to deliver “Hope Packages” consisting of daily necessities to about 1,350 welfare facilities and low-income homebound disabled persons in the area through non-face-to-face methods.
To prevent COVID-19, the number of on-site participants will be limited to fewer than 50 people, and the event will be broadcast live on the YouTube channel ‘SongpaTV’ so that many people with disabilities and residents can enjoy the ontact event together.
Park Seong-su, Mayor of Songpa-gu, said, “I hope the ‘2021 Songpa-gu Ontact Disabled Festival’ will be a time for people with disabilities and residents exhausted by COVID-19 to encourage and heal each other, even if only for a moment,” adding, “We will continue to frequently create opportunities where people with disabilities, their families, and the local community can come together to build a Songpa-gu where we live together.”
