[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] The Ministry of Foreign Affairs held a video conference on the 16th, chaired by Second Vice Minister Choi Jong-moon, focusing on the heads of diplomatic missions in countries producing COVID-19 vaccines such as the United States, the United Kingdom, and Russia.
Vice Minister Choi urged the mission chiefs, saying, "We ask each mission in the field of diplomacy to play a more practical and realistic role in securing vaccine supplies," emphasizing their attention and efforts.
The meeting was attended by heads of missions from the United States, the United Kingdom, Russia, Belgium and the European Union (EU), the Netherlands, India, Geneva, Canada, Germany, and Japan. Diplomatic support measures to swiftly procure sufficient quantities of vaccines needed domestically were discussed.
Relevant government agencies, including the Secretariat of the Pan-Government Vaccine Procurement Task Force (TF), the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, and the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, also participated to share the current status of vaccine supply with the mission chiefs and directly explain the necessary support measures.
