On the 15th (local time), major foreign media outlets including The New York Times (NYT) and the Associated Press (AP) reported this citing local police. According to foreign media, a shooting occurred in the afternoon at a FedEx logistics center located in Indianapolis, Indiana. Zinae Cook, spokesperson for the Indianapolis Police Department, stated, "At least eight people have died, and many others were injured and transported to hospitals."
The AP reported that at least four people were transported, one of whom is in critical condition. Two other injured individuals received treatment at the scene. Police arrived at the scene around 11 p.m. after receiving reports of the shooting. They explained that the shooting was still ongoing at the time. The identity of the suspect has not yet been revealed. Spokesperson Cook said, "We are still gathering information and investigating regarding the suspect's identity," adding, "The suspect is deceased and is believed to have taken their own life."
FedEx issued an official statement saying, "A tragic shooting incident occurred at a FedEx ground facility near Indianapolis Airport," and added, "We are cooperating with the investigative authorities."
A witness told a local media outlet, "After several gunshots, I saw a man holding a gun," and "The man was shooting with what looked like an automatic rifle or submachine gun."
Recently, shootings have been occurring frequently in the United States. On the 16th of last month, shootings also occurred at massage parlors and spas in Atlanta, Georgia, and Cherokee County. At that time, a white man in his 20s opened fire, killing a total of eight people, including four Korean women.
