Changwon City Initiates Public Discussion on Toll Reduction for Jigae~Namsan Road

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Saeyan] As the Jigae~Namsan Road in Changwon City, Gyeongnam, is about to open, requests for toll discounts are pouring in, and on the 16th, Changwon City began public discussion to determine an appropriate toll fee.

This is the first official agenda selected in one year and six months since the debate over the pros and cons of Starfield's entry. The toll issue of the Jigae~Namsan private road has been raised by citizens, including residents of Buk-myeon, Uichang-gu, since May last year.

The key issue in determining the toll for this private road was initially proposed in 2007 at 1,100 KRW for small cars. The current calculated toll is 1,400 KRW, reflecting the inflation rate at the time of opening.

Going forward, the public discussion committee plans to derive an objective and appropriate agreement and submit a recommendation by June, before the initial toll fee decision between the city and the private operator.

Meanwhile, the connecting road between Jigae and Namsan is a 5.4 km four-lane road connecting Jigaeri, Buk-myeon (National Road 79) to Namsanri, Dong-eup (Namsan IC). It is scheduled to be completed in July, and the travel time between Buk-myeon and the city center is expected to be reduced by more than 20 minutes.
