KTH Opens Simultaneous Theater and VOD Service for the Movie Minari

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] KTH announced on the 16th that it will open simultaneous theater and VOD services for the film Minari, which depicts the joys and sorrows of Korean immigrant families, on the 21st through the three IPTV providers (KT Olleh TV, SK Btv, LG U+TV) and KT Skylife.

Minari is an autobiographical story by director Lee Isaac Chung that calmly portrays Korean immigrant families trying to take root in unfamiliar American society, much like the minari plant that takes root and grows in harsh environments. The film has received worldwide acclaim for the actors' outstanding performances and delicate direction. Notably, it has earned 105 international awards, including the Sundance Film Festival Grand Jury Prize, the Golden Globe Award for Best Foreign Language Film, and the first-ever British Academy and Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Supporting Actress for a Korean actor.

Prior to the simultaneous theater and VOD release, pre-orders for Minari will be available through IPTV. Customers who pre-order Minari on Olleh TV by the 19th will receive a 4,900 KRW coupon, and those who pre-order on LG U+TV by the 20th will receive a 4,000 KRW coupon.

KTH has acquired the distribution rights to digitally supply Minari to domestic IPTV platforms and will strengthen its content business by distributing the film Saekom Dalkom, in which it made a main investment, worldwide via Netflix in early June.

Meanwhile, KTH has distributed over 17,000 digital contents across various genres including movies, series, animation, and education. Leveraging its content distribution capabilities, it launched the K Play service in March, the first in the home shopping industry to offer free movies on the K Shopping app.
