An 'Air Dome' Specialized for Training Camps to Be Established in Chuncheon

11,000㎡, Auxiliary Facilities 1,000㎡ Scale‥ Scheduled for Completion in October 2022

[Asia Economy Reporter La Young-cheol] An 'air dome' capable of hosting training camps will be established in Chuncheon, Gangwon Province.

Chuncheon City announced on the 16th, "The Korea Sports Promotion Foundation has selected Chuncheon as the final project site following the evaluation of the training camp specialized facility (air dome) installation support project."

According to the city, the Korea Sports Promotion Foundation highly rated the site conditions in Songam-dong, Chuncheon, accessibility to the metropolitan area, and the surrounding environment during the evaluation.

The city plans to secure 5 billion KRW in national funds and invest a total of 10 billion KRW to build an air dome with a total floor area of 11,000㎡ and auxiliary facilities of 1,000㎡ around the Songam Sports Town kart track by October 2022.

The 'air dome' is a dome-shaped structure made using air pressure, an architectural technique that forms space without internal columns or beams.

The city intends to use the air dome as a soccer field (9,000㎡), warm-up zone, and badminton court (2,000㎡) during normal times, and as an on-site command center, ward, and evacuation facility during disasters.

A city official said, "With the selection for the air dome public project, we expect it to greatly contribute to the healthy lives of Chuncheon citizens and the local economy through attracting training camps."
