From the 16th, Priority Payment of 4.1 Billion Won for 1,574 Cases with Delivered Decision Notices
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Jae-ho] Pohang City will begin disbursing relief funds for damage starting from the 16th, the effective date of the revised enforcement decree of the Pohang Earthquake Special Act.
The recipients of this first payment since the enactment of the Special Act are 1,574 cases (with a budget scale of about 4.1 billion KRW) out of 1,588 cases approved by the 'Pohang Earthquake Damage Relief Deliberation Committee' on the 19th of last month, who have received notification of recognition as victims and payment decisions. The payment rate compared to the approved cases is 99%.
There are 14 cases for which the notification delivery has not been completed. Pohang City plans to complete the second notification, and for cases returned again, it will finalize the public notice on the city hall website to complete the official delivery procedure and disburse the relief funds.
Regarding the relief funds for cases where the delivery procedure has been completed, Article 16 of the Special Act Enforcement Decree stipulates that payment must be made within one month from the date the decision notification is delivered, after confirming the applicant's account.
Mayor Lee Kang-deok of Pohang emphasized, "This relief fund is highly significant as it is the first payment to the affected residents based on the Special Act, enacted due to the residents' earnest demands after enduring immense suffering over the past three years caused by the earthquake triggered by the national geothermal power project."
