[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Gwan-woo] Honam University announced on the afternoon of the 15th that it held a special lecture by experts on the future of the eSports industry and more than 20 related jobs at the Honam University eSports Arena on the first floor of Hyunmyeong Hall on campus.
On this day, Nam Yoon-sung, head of the Sportizen eSports team, served as the lecturer.
In this special lecture co-hosted by Honam University LINC+ Project Group and the Department of eSports Industry, lecturer Nam Yoon-sung shared various information through a Q&A session with online and offline participants based on the ‘eSports Job Guide’ published last February, which compiled the know-how, experience, and knowledge he gained while covering the eSports scene as a reporter.
Nam said, “eSports is the masterpiece of dreamers. Professional gamers were created by people who are good at playing games gathering to compete for the best, and related jobs emerged one by one with the help of those around them. I myself was fascinated by that world and now make a living here.”
He introduced more than 20 jobs including ▲professional gamer ▲league planner ▲referee ▲league PD ▲broadcast writer ▲game caster ▲specialized reporter, as well as methods to obtain related certifications, salaries, and prospects.
This special lecture, which served as a guide for eSports aspirants, invited only 20 people for face-to-face lectures on site to minimize mass gatherings due to COVID-19, while about 80 people who expressed their intention to participate online showed keen interest by watching the live lecture through the YouTube channel ‘Honam University TV.’
Jung Yeon-cheol, head of the Department of eSports Industry at Honam University, said, “Students were able to directly hear the lecturer’s field experience about jobs they were usually curious about, which must have been very helpful for each individual’s career exploration.”
Meanwhile, Honam University is accelerating the revitalization of the eSports industry and the training of professional personnel by establishing the Department of eSports Industry for the first time among four-year universities in Korea last year and founding the eSports team ‘Suribu-ong-i’ this year.
