[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Nosik] Namwon City in Jeonbuk announced on the 15th that it will accept applications for the ‘2022 Resident Participatory Budget Resident Proposal Project,’ where citizens propose projects needed in the region, until the 31st of next month.
The Resident Participatory Budget system is meaningful in that residents participate from project proposal to review, realizing fiscal democracy through transparent and efficient budget management.
Anyone who is a citizen of Namwon can participate in the application process, which can be done online through the city’s website or by visiting the City Hall (Planning Office) or the Eup/Myeon/Dong Administrative Welfare Centers.
The projects eligible for application include new projects that can contribute to the development of city administration, such as ▲ revitalization of the local economy ▲ job creation ▲ promotion of citizens’ health ▲ convenient urban environment ▲ projects for youth cultural enjoyment ▲ and living SOC projects that all citizens can sympathize with.
Private subsidy projects, festival/event projects, and national/provincial matching fund projects are excluded from the application.
The submitted proposals will go through a review process by the relevant departments and the Resident Participatory Budget Committee and are expected to be reflected in the 2022 budget (draft).
A city official said, “We have guaranteed resident participation throughout the entire process from proposal submission, budget review, to project monitoring and post-management,” and added, “Since this system closely incorporates citizens’ voices into the city budget, we ask for residents’ active interest and participation.”
