Establishing a Cooperative System to Expand the Use of Eco-Friendly Packaging and Sales of Wando Seafood

Wando-gun Signs Business Agreement with NS Home Shopping for Use of Eco-Friendly Packaging Materials

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Kyung-pil] Wando County, Jeonnam (Governor Shin Woo-cheol) announced on the 15th that it has signed a business agreement for mutual cooperation with NS Home Shopping.

The signing ceremony was attended by Shin Woo-cheol, Governor of Wando County, Woo Seong-ja, Wando County Council member, and Jo Hang-mok, Co-CEO of NS Home Shopping.

Through this business agreement, Wando County and NS Home Shopping agreed to cooperate on the use and promotion of eco-friendly packaging materials between NS Home Shopping and Wando County, the additional development of eco-friendly packaging materials, promotion of Wando County, and expansion of seafood sales.

Governor Shin Woo-cheol stated, “I consider it very meaningful to sign a business agreement with NS Home Shopping, the largest comprehensive food distribution company in Korea, and I hope this will serve as a foundation for spreading eco-friendly abalone packaging and expanding sales of seafood from Wando.”

Recently, with the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, online food purchases have surged, raising environmental concerns over disposable delivery packaging such as styrofoam boxes and superabsorbent resin ice packs.

In response, since February, Wando County has installed dedicated ice pack collection boxes at 24 locations including town offices and apartment complexes as a pilot project to promote the reuse of ice packs, and is currently collecting and reusing them.

Meanwhile, NS Home Shopping, founded in 2001, is a comprehensive distribution company specializing in online sales such as TV home shopping, with sales of 137.3 billion KRW in 2020.

In particular, it has introduced eco-friendly ice packs that use water instead of refrigerants for logistics delivery and can be separated for recycling, as well as reusable delivery boxes.
