Gurye-gun Launches Full-Scale "Living in the Countryside" Program


[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yuk Miseok] Gurye-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Kim Sun-ho) announced on the 15th that it has been recruiting participants for the 'Living in the Countryside' program from the 19th to the 28th of last month and has been implementing the program since the 12th.


The county publicly recruited participants through the Return-to-Farming and Rural Migration Comprehensive Center website.


With 39 applicants for 5 spots, showing a high competition rate, a fair selection process was conducted through phone and written interviews for the first round, and the final 6 participants were selected through a second round operating committee meeting.


The selected participants will comply with quarantine rules such as COVID-19 testing before moving in and will reside in the Jirisan Hyojangsu area rural experience and recreation village in Masan-myeon, Gurye-gun.


Four participants will join the program for six months from the 12th until October 11th, and two participants will join the program for three months from July to October.


Participants can receive various educational programs covering overall rural understanding, farming practice, local exploration, and rural experiences, as well as accommodation support.


Participants who attend more than 15 days of education per month diligently will also receive a monthly training allowance of 300,000 KRW.


The Jirisan Hyojangsu area rural experience and recreation village in Masan-myeon is an active village for return-to-farming and rural migration, with 13 members from 4 villages forming the area operation committee.


Additionally, it possesses various agricultural bases such as eco-friendly farming, orchards, cultivation facilities, and landscaping, making it possible to provide farming experience education in almost all fields including rice paddies, dry fields, and facility cultivation, as well as landscaping.


Kim Sun-ho, Governor of Gurye-gun, said, “I hope this Living in the Countryside program will be a valuable opportunity for urban residents interested in return-to-farming and rural migration to experience life in Gurye-gun in advance,” and added, “I expect that interest in return-to-farming and rural migration will lead to settlement in Gurye-gun.”
