[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Cheol-hyun] Coupang announced on the 15th that it plans to hire 3,200 people in Changwon. According to the business agreement signed with Changwon City and the Changwon branch of the Ministry of Employment and Labor, Coupang plans to prioritize hiring local residents and continuously make efforts to create local jobs and promote regional development.

This new employment announcement by Coupang is a follow-up measure to the investment of more than 300 billion KRW for the construction of three logistics centers in the Gyeongnam region, including Changwon City. Coupang has already started the process to hire about 100 local residents early next month ahead of the opening of the Jinhae logistics center, and plans to complete the hiring of 3,200 people in Changwon by next year.

Coupang has built over 100 independent logistics centers in more than 30 cities nationwide so far. Coupang explained that thousands of jobs for local residents have been created wherever new logistics centers have been established. In addition, Coupang has actively hired women and middle-aged workers to reduce employment gaps occurring in local areas. Through this, it directly created 25,000 new jobs last year and announced plans to invest in building logistics centers worth a total of 1 trillion KRW in seven new regions.

Kim Myung-kyu, Executive Director of Logistics Policy at Coupang, said, "Coupang's logistics infrastructure construction will be a stepping stone for creating good jobs," and added, "We will prioritize hiring local residents for regional economic development and simultaneously continue to improve customer service."
