Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs & Agricultural Policy Institute "Enhancing Female Farmers' Agricultural Work Competence and Policy Utilization"
[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] The government announced on the 15th that it will conduct policy-related education for 9,600 female farmers nationwide from the 19th of this month until the end of the year.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and the Korea Agency of Education, Promotion and Information Service in Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (NAQS) stated that this year they plan to educate 9,600 female farmers in 960 villages. For about two hours, professional instructors from educational institutions will visit the villages to introduce support policies for female farmers and provide hands-on training on the use of various equipment. Last year, the project was launched for the first time, providing education to 3,600 female farmers in 120 villages.
Eight organizations, including the Hoengseong Women Farmers Association, selected through a public contest, will conduct the education. On the 29th of last month, a preliminary workshop was held for about 40 instructors to demonstrate equipment usage and share best practices from last year’s education.
Omiran, head of the Rural Women Policy Team at the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, said, "The expanded farming condition improvement education will be an important foundation to strengthen the capabilities of female farmers and improve their quality of life." She added, "The farming ideas of female farmers will be recognized through a separate contest, with awards presented at the Women Farmers’ Day event on October 15th. We will also operate various additional educational programs to provide more benefits to rural women."
