[Asia Economy Reporter Jumi Lee] Kim Young-choon, former Minister of Oceans and Fisheries who ran as the Democratic Party candidate in the April 7 Busan mayoral by-election but lost, pointed out that "renewing the national administration by singling out one or two people to assign blame is futile."

On the 14th, Kim said through his Facebook, "It would be better to have intense debates, but in a dignified process that does not lead to irreversible division."

He emphasized, "The Moon Jae-in administration is a Democratic Party government," and "Innovation in the party, government, and Blue House is a simultaneous task, not separate issues."

He continued, "Above all, a humble attitude to listen carefully to public opinion is required," adding, "We must delve into issues such as real estate and COVID-19 response more quickly and boldly to achieve results. All actors in the party, government, and Blue House should act with a determination to make sacrifices under the recognition that they share a common fate."

He also stated, "The citizens' mandate to renew the administration during the election period was clearly confirmed," and insisted, "We must uphold public opinion as it is with the attitude of 'Gunju Minsu' (the people are the water that supports the boat, the ruler)."

Furthermore, he stressed, "Corruption such as public officials' real estate speculation must be decisively eradicated," and "The right path must be achieved in a way that the people understand and acknowledge."

Kim also revealed his future plans. He said, "I will cultivate the future of Busan again by the side of Busan citizens," and "With the belief that this is also the path for the Republic of Korea, I will quietly carry a small burden on my back and move forward."
