[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] Former U.S. President Donald Trump criticized the Biden administration's recommendation to halt the use of the Janssen COVID-19 vaccine, calling it a "terrible nuisance."

On the 13th (local time), former President Trump stated in a press release that "the Biden administration caused a terrible nuisance to citizens by accepting the FDA and CDC's recommendation to suspend the use of the Janssen COVID-19 vaccine," according to local media reports.

Former President Trump said, "This decision was likely made for political reasons or because the FDA loves Pfizer," adding, "Despite the excellent results of the Janssen vaccine clinical trials, it will suffer permanent damage, and those who have already been vaccinated will rise up."

The FDA and CDC recommended suspending the use of the Janssen vaccine on the same day, citing six cases of "rare but serious" thrombosis among Janssen vaccine recipients. Approximately 6.8 million doses of the Janssen vaccine have been administered in the United States so far. About 9 million doses of the Janssen vaccine have been distributed to states but have not yet been used.
