[Asia Economy Reporter Heo Midam] Yoo Neungjong, the lawyer who was representing Seok Mo (48), the biological mother detained in the '3-year-old girl death case in Gumi, Gyeongbuk,' suddenly resigned.

According to the legal community on the 14th, Yoo Neungjong, who was defending Seok, identified as the biological mother of the deceased 3-year-old girl, submitted a letter of resignation to the court that day.

Lawyer Yoo had submitted a written opinion as a defense attorney after the prosecution indicted Seok and the trial began on the 5th. However, it is reported that he suddenly filed a resignation as legal representative just nine days later.

Yoo reportedly said, "The case received nationwide attention, which was a heavy burden," and "I decided to resign because I can no longer take on the defense."

Earlier, Seok was brought to trial on the 5th on charges of abducting a minor and attempted concealment of a corpse. The first hearing for Seok's case will be held on the 22nd at the Gimcheon branch of Daegu District Court.

Seok was initially known as the maternal grandmother of the deceased girl, but DNA testing revealed she was the biological mother. However, even after the prosecution's indictment, Seok maintained her previous stance that "I did not give birth to the child."

Meanwhile, Kim Mo (22), who was initially known as the deceased girl's "mother" but later identified as her "older sister," is reported to have appointed a public defender.
