[Asia Economy Reporter Ji-hwan Park] The KOSPI closed higher for the third consecutive trading day, supported by simultaneous net buying from foreigners and institutions. The KOSDAQ also continued its six-day winning streak.


According to the Korea Exchange on the 14th, the KOSPI closed at 3,182.38, up 0.42% (13.30 points) from the previous trading day. This closing price is the highest since the all-time high of 3,208.99 recorded on January 25. The index opened at 3,169.95, up 0.87 points (0.03%) from the previous session, then fluctuated between declines and gains throughout the day.


By investor type, individuals were the sole net sellers with 300.5 billion KRW sold. Foreigners and institutions bought stocks worth 106.1 billion KRW and 178.8 billion KRW respectively, driving the index upward.


Among the top market capitalization stocks, LG Chem showed the highest gain, rising 3.34% to 897,000 KRW compared to the previous trading day. Following were Hyundai Motor (1.09%), Samsung SDI (1.01%), NAVER (0.77%), and Samsung Biologics (0.77%). Samsung Electronics showed no price change, while SK Hynix fell 1.79%.


By sector, insurance (2.16%), textiles and apparel (2.02%), steel and metals (1.83%), machinery (1.59%), and non-metallic minerals (1.46%) rose. Declining sectors included telecommunications (-1.42%), banking (-0.43%), food and beverages (-0.15%), electrical and electronics (-0.08%), and transportation and warehousing (-0.07%).


The KOSDAQ closed at 1,014.42, up 0.40% (4.05 points) from the previous trading day. By investor type, foreigners and institutions bought stocks worth 10.9 billion KRW and 13.1 billion KRW respectively, while individuals sold stocks worth 2.3 billion KRW.


Among the top market capitalization stocks, performances were mixed. Celltrion Pharm (1.30%), EcoPro BM (2.93%), and Alteogen (6.20%) rose. On the other hand, HL Biopharma (-0.56%), Celltrion Healthcare (-0.81%), and Seegene (-0.90%) declined.
