Seoul City Improves Bicycle Path Structure at Yanghwa Hangang Park... Enhancing Pedestrian Safety

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Metropolitan Government's Hangang Project Headquarters announced on the 15th that it will begin structural improvement work on the bicycle path at Yanghwa Hangang Park to enable citizens to use the Hangang Park more safely and comfortably.

The Hangang Project Headquarters has been continuously improving bicycle paths and walkways to create a pleasant walking environment for both pedestrians and bicycle path users in Hangang Park, a resting space for ten million citizens.

This project involves creating new walkways and bicycle paths to replace the existing bicycle path in the section from the southern end of Seongsan Bridge to Seonyu Bridge, with completion targeted for July.

This area has been a site of concern due to conflicts between vehicles entering and exiting the third parking lot of Yanghwa Hangang Park and bicycle path users, causing bottlenecks and raising safety accident risks. The construction aims to prevent safety accidents and improve the walking environment.

The newly constructed bicycle path and walkway will be 6 meters wide and 767 meters long, following the riverside, allowing citizens who walk or ride bicycles to enjoy a more open view and a pleasant natural environment.

Shin Yong-mok, head of the Seoul Hangang Project Headquarters, said, “We are continuously working to improve the walking environment by separating bicycle paths and walkways and addressing pedestrian inconveniences to ensure citizens' safety and comfortable park use.” He added, “We plan to complete this construction as soon as possible to minimize inconvenience, and we ask for your understanding and cooperation even if there are some difficulties in passage.”
