Busan City Holds Non-Face-to-Face Walking Event to Overcome Dementia

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Busan City will hold a ‘walking’ event to wish for overcoming dementia.

Busan City announced on the 14th that it will hold the ‘2021 One Mind Dementia Overcoming Busan Walking Event,’ which practices ‘walking,’ good for dementia prevention, in a non-face-to-face format. The event’s nickname is ‘Sharing Love (愛) and Hope for Dementia.’

The dementia overcoming walking event is held to improve awareness of dementia and raise citizens’ interest. It has been promoted in Busan since 2014 but was canceled last year due to COVID-19.

This year, Busan City will promote the walking event in a non-face-to-face manner. The non-face-to-face walking event this year is hosted by Busan City and jointly organized by the Busan Metropolitan Dementia Center and 16 district and county Dementia Safety Centers.

Busan citizens who wish to participate can apply for the event on the Busan Metropolitan Dementia Center website and the 16 district and county Dementia Safety Centers from the pre-registration period of the 15th to the 23rd, for 9 days.

One thousand citizens who complete pre-registration will be provided with a ‘walking kit.’ Participation is free of charge.

During the event period from the 1st to the 15th of next month, participants can walk individually on their preferred walking paths within the Busan area and then register their reviews.

For walking locations, participants can refer to the ‘Busan-style Road Name Storytelling Travel Paths’ and the ‘Galmaetgil Course.’ After completing the review registration, prizes will be given through a lottery.

Park Hyung-jun, Mayor of Busan, said, “I hope this walking event will raise awareness about dementia and help eliminate prejudice,” adding, “We will strive to make Busan a place where people can live safely even with dementia.”
