Cheongam College, Expectations for Normalization
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] The Cheongam Academy, which operates Cheongam University and Cheongam High School, announced on the 13th that it held a board of directors meeting and dismissed Chairman Kim Do-young, electing Director Oh Cho-nyeo as the new chairman.
On the same day, the board reportedly confirmed the cancellation of the suspension of President Seo Hyung-won, which was decided on December 16 of last year, and also invalidated the appointment of Acting President Kim, who was nominated by Chairman Kim Do-young.
With this, it is expected that the confusion at Cheongam University caused by the suspension of the president and other issues since Chairman Kim Do-young’s appointment on December 16 last year will enter a resolution phase.
The board meeting held this time was convened with the approval of the Ministry of Education under the special convening provisions of the Private School Act by a majority of directors opposing Chairman Kim Do-young’s management of the corporation and school.
The initially approved board meeting by the Ministry of Education was first held on the 25th of last month, but the agenda item of “dismissal of the chairman” could not be addressed because Chairman Kim filed a provisional injunction with the Daejeon District Court against some agenda items.
On the 2nd, the Daejeon District Court dismissed Chairman Kim’s injunction request, allowing today’s board meeting, convened with the Ministry of Education’s approval, to deliberate and resolve the agenda item “Dismissal of Chairman Kim Do-young and Appointment of New Chairman.”
Chairman Kim did not attend today’s meeting but is reported to have conveyed his opposition to his dismissal to the corporation.
Since the end of last December, the Cheongam University Faculty Union and the Cheongam University Normalization Citizens’ Countermeasure Committee, who have been appealing for Chairman Kim’s resignation and invalidation of the acting president’s appointment, welcomed the election of the new chairman and expressed hope that the new chairman will communicate with university members and operate the corporation and school rationally and democratically, leading to the swift normalization of the long-standing Cheongam University crisis.
