[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Joo-hee] A report has been received that a passenger who used a taxi app had their personal information exposed and received private messages from the driver, such as "How have you been?"
According to a JTBC report on the 12th, Mr. A, in his 30s, used the taxi-hailing app 'Tmap' to return home on the 17th of last month.
However, after arriving home, Mr. A received a KakaoTalk message from the taxi driver saying, "Please contact me when you need a taxi."
At the time of using the taxi, Mr. A felt the driver seemed lost, so he called through the app to explain his location, during which Mr. A's phone number was exposed.
Feeling uneasy, Mr. A complained to Tmap, but Tmap only advised him to block the driver's phone number and took no further action.
Even after Mr. A blocked the driver's KakaoTalk, the driver contacted him once again.
According to a recording released by Mr. A, the driver called him in an informal tone as if speaking to a friend, saying, "Hello. Do you know who this is? Taxi. How have you been?"
The driver reportedly said the reason for contacting Mr. A was "to make a regular customer. I apologize if it made you uncomfortable."
Tmap later introduced caller ID blocking to protect passengers' personal information and stated that they are discussing compensation at the victim's request.
