Justice Party "The 'COVID-19 Loss Compensation Act' Must Be Enacted Immediately in the April Extraordinary National Assembly"

[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] The Justice Party urged the enactment of the 'COVID-19 Loss Compensation Act' during the April extraordinary session of the National Assembly.

On the 12th, Justice Party leader Yeo Young-guk said at the morning leadership meeting, "The damage caused by over a year of (COVID-19) quarantine administrative orders has been borne entirely by the public, including self-employed individuals," adding, "Compensation for losses is the best quarantine measure." He emphasized that the 'COVID-19 Loss Compensation Act,' proposed by party member Shim Sang-jung, must be enacted immediately.

Leader Yeo stated, "The funding can be covered by the 'Disaster Solidarity Tax' proposed by Justice Party member Jang Hye-young," and criticized, "Forcing greater sacrifices on the majority of citizens suffering from the COVID-19 disaster while imposing no responsibility on companies and classes enjoying special profits from the pandemic is the bare-faced reality of entrenched politics by vested interests for vested interests."

He also added harsh criticism toward the Democratic Party of Korea and the People Power Party.

Leader Yeo said, "The two entrenched political parties show no reflection on the harms caused by their monopolized political power." He pointed out, "The arrogance of the Democratic Party's 180 seats was the starting point of the April 7 public sentiment explosion, yet in the apologies coming from various parts of the Democratic Party, even those stigmatized as rookie traitors, there was no mention of this."

The Justice Party reiterated through a statement in the afternoon that the 'COVID-19 Loss Compensation Act' and the 'Conflict of Interest Prevention Act' must be enacted during the April extraordinary session of the National Assembly.

Chief spokesperson Lee Dong-young said in the statement, "The Democratic Party of Korea and the People Power Party have been submitting apologies and pledges daily since the election. Now is the time to show through actions, not words," demanding active resolution of the enactment of the COVID-19 Loss Compensation Act including retroactive application, the formation of a special committee on loss compensation, the Conflict of Interest Prevention Act, a full investigation into lawmakers' speculation, and the preparation of supplementary budgets.
