Professor Jeon Young-guk of Suncheon National University Department of Computer Education Receives Excellent Paper Awards from the Korean Computer Education Society and the Dance History Records Society

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Suncheon National University (President Ko Young-jin) announced on the 12th that Professor Jeon Young-guk of the Department of Computer Education received excellent paper awards from the Korean Society for Computer Education and the Society for Dance History and Documentation, respectively, in recognition of his achievements in the field of environmental convergence arts, including the IT-based convergence education camp program and the development of the Heukdurumi Dance.

Professor Jeon Young-guk previously received an excellent paper award at the Korean Society for Computer Education Winter Conference in January for his paper titled “Application of Suncheon Bay IT Ecological Convergence Education Camp for Elementary School Students.”

The paper presented a case of developing an IT convergence camp project and content themed around Suncheon Bay, a representative ecological environmental resource of the region, targeting elementary school students.

In particular, the program was developed to encourage students to engage in creative activities using Suncheon Bay as the subject, and it received high praise for systematically introducing Heukdurumi-related animations, LED lights, and children's theater performances.

Additionally, Professor Jeon Young-guk received an excellent paper award for his paper titled “Autobiographical Case Study on the Motivation, Process, and Performance of the Heukdurumi Dance,” published in the Journal of the Society for Dance History and Documentation.

The paper was highly evaluated in academia for applying qualitative research methods to explore the motivation, process, and performance of creating the Heukdurumi Dance through an autobiographical case study.

In response to a special lecture request from the Society for Dance History and Documentation, Professor Jeon lectured in February on the qualitative research methods (case study, portraiture, etc.) used in his award-winning paper.

Professor Jeon currently serves as the Director of the Durumi Science and Arts Center and the Head of the Graduate Department of Environmental Convergence Arts.

Since 2019, he has developed creative dances based on scientific research on the Suncheon Bay Heukdurumi, introduced them in places such as Nantes, France, and the United States, and continuously creates and shares content related to the region’s ecological cultural arts, including publishing picture books (in Korean, English, French, German, and Japanese) based on the Heukdurumi story.

Furthermore, he has held more than ten creative camps using IT with local elementary, middle, and high school students, setting Suncheon Bay as the stage. Last year, as part of a high school career experience program, he held a camp for high school and university students to create moving flowers and Heukdurumi.

Moreover, in February, the Graduate Department of Environmental Convergence Arts awarded its first master's degree for a thesis titled “Case Study on the Heukdurumi Dance Performance,” continuing various activities for the convergence of IT, environment, and arts.

Professor Jeon said, “I expect that through active collaboration and creative activities with creative artists in Suncheon, the region’s unique and excellent ecological cultural content will further develop.”
