[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Hyun-joo] Na Kyung-won, former member of the People Power Party, said on the 12th, "Our party needs two efforts: self-strengthening and reform," adding, "The party must be strong and prepared before playing the role of a (presidential election) platform."

Na appeared on KBS Radio's 'Choi Kyung-young's Strongest Current Affairs' that day and stated, "If we just bring in Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol and say we will be a platform, who would come? I believe that if our party is attractive, everyone will compete to come."

He explained, "I think there will be aspects that can be shown through the party convention where a new leadership is formed. I believe we must strengthen ourselves and show a form that can embrace all generations and regions. I think such things can probably emerge through the party convention."

Respect Ahn's Opinion on Merger

He also said, "Even if someone is from Yeongnam, if they understand the sentiment of the metropolitan area well, they can do it," adding, "I think the overall harmony of the leadership is necessary, not a situation where it is too skewed to one side."

He continued, "Factionalism, secret meetings, and behind-the-scenes situations?such old-fashioned politics must disappear," adding, "I think old-fashioned politics must disappear, and the party should naturally be somewhat lively."

Regarding the merger with the People Party, he said that the opinion of party leader Ahn Cheol-soo should be respected. When asked if the sequence is to have the party convention first and then move toward the merger, he replied, "I think that is what Leader Ahn thinks," and "It seems so."
