Gang Intentionally Causing Accident by Crossing Center Line Caught for Insurance Fraud

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kang Sharon] The Yangsan Police Station in Gyeongnam announced on the 12th that three main suspects, including Mr. A, were sent to prosecution in custody, and 29 accomplices involved in the crime were sent to prosecution without detention on charges of deliberately causing accidents against other vehicles to fraudulently claim insurance money (violation of the Special Act on the Prevention of Insurance Fraud).

They are accused of causing 12 intentional traffic accidents on roads in Yangsan City, Gyeongnam, and Ulsan City during the month of February, receiving 74 million won in insurance money.

They mainly caused intentional accidents by targeting vehicles that briefly crossed the center line to avoid parked cars on one-lane roads or vehicles changing lanes in roundabouts and colliding with them.

The accomplices recruited partners on social networking services (SNS) under the condition of paying 300,000 to 400,000 won per day to avoid police suspicion when the same vehicle or driver repeatedly caused accidents.

They then rented rental cars under the names of the accomplices, handed over the steering wheel to them, and caused intentional traffic accidents.

When the accomplices were not good at causing traffic accidents, the main suspects used a method of swapping the accomplices and drivers recruited via SNS after causing accidents.
