Ministry of Science and ICT to Conduct Demand Survey for Carbon Neutral Innovation Technologies Starting from the 19th

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bong-su] The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on the 12th that it will actively promote the planning of the '(tentative name) Carbon Neutral Innovation Technology Development Project' to proactively secure innovative basic and foundational technologies with significant carbon reduction effects, in accordance with the carbon-neutral technology innovation promotion strategy established last March.

Currently, the Green Technology Center is conducting planning research, and starting this month, it will form and operate an expert planning committee to specify the scope and content of the project. The Green Technology Center will conduct a public technology demand survey for discovering various research topics for about three weeks starting from the 19th. Researchers from industry, academia, and research institutes with technology development needs can freely propose their opinions through the '(tentative name) Carbon Neutral Innovation Technology Development Project Online Technology Demand Survey' website. The results will be used as foundational data by the expert planning committee during the detailed planning process of the project.

The Ministry of Science and ICT plans to accelerate project planning starting with this technology demand survey and launch the 'Carbon Neutral Innovation Technology Development Project' next year. To this end, a preliminary feasibility study will be conducted in the second half of this year.

Earlier, on the 31st of last month, the government confirmed the carbon-neutral technology innovation promotion strategy at a meeting of ministers related to science and technology, deciding to intensively promote research and development of 10 core technologies. The goal of this project is to comprehensively develop challenging foundational technologies expected to have significant carbon reduction and economic ripple effects. The government plans to select innovative basic and foundational technologies requiring mid- to long-term focused support and support them through a two-track approach: achieving ultra-high performance and next-generation foundational technologies.

In particular, the government is considering a plan to promote the commercialization of carbon-neutral technologies by establishing independent project groups in the form of industry-academia-research consortia that include demand companies to carry out research and development.
