'Prevention of Landslides During the Rainy Season'... Gyeonggi-do Establishes Three Major Comprehensive Measures Landslide Prevention Sabangdam [Provided by Gyeonggi-do]

[Asia Economy Reporter La Young-cheol] Gyeonggi Province is establishing and implementing a 'Comprehensive Landslide Prevention Plan' ahead of the rainy season.

According to the province on the 12th, the plan will set three main focus areas: ▲strengthening the management system centered on landslide-prone areas ▲establishing a rapid response system for landslide occurrences ▲investigating causes of landslides and permanent restoration.

Focusing on landslide-prone areas in the living zones of 23 cities and counties including Pocheon City, a total of 5.6 billion KRW will be invested this year to carry out preventive erosion control projects such as 15 check dams, 6 km of stream conservation, and 1 hectare of mountain erosion control.

At 2,221 landslide-prone sites, 56 field prevention teams will be deployed to conduct on-site inspections and repairs at least twice a year, and 1,221 evacuation sites for residents have been prepared.

In 12 cities and counties including Anseong, Icheon, and Yongin, where landslides occurred last year, restoration of 215 sites is planned to be completed by June, before the rainy season this year.

Additionally, during the rainy season, safety awareness and promotional activities targeting residents in vulnerable areas will be conducted through outdoor electronic billboards and other mass-use facilities, as well as TV and the internet.

The province will operate the Gyeonggi Province Landslide Prevention Headquarters for five months from July 15 to October 15.
