[Asia Economy Reporter Bu Aeri] LG CNS is launching its artificial intelligence (AI) learning service ‘AI Tutor’ in the Japanese market.
On the 12th, LG CNS partnered with the Japanese language company ‘Aeon’ to release the Japanese version called ‘AI Speak Tutor.’ LG CNS plans to target overseas markets, including Japan, based on its self-developed AI conversation algorithms and speech recognition technology.
AI Tutor is an app used by about 600,000 users domestically and is utilized as an English education program for employees at over 150 companies, including LG affiliates. In addition, LG CNS has partnerships with Carrot Global, YBMNET, Yoon’s English, Pagoda, and others to provide AI Tutor and AI TOEIC Speaking services.
In Japan, Aeon, which operates about 250 directly managed language schools, will offer AI Speak Tutor as a pre-release to its existing students. Starting next month, the general public will be able to download and use it from smartphone app stores.
LG CNS implemented a localization strategy to target the Japanese market. Instead of simply translating the existing AI Tutor content into Japanese, learning content was created reflecting various characteristics of Japan. For example, the AI asks and answers questions considering Japan’s food culture and other aspects.
AI Speak Tutor also applies AI technology independently developed by LG CNS. It recognizes users’ answers and analyzes the content to evaluate the accuracy and fluency of responses according to context. Unlike existing English conversation apps that mark answers as incorrect if users say expressions different from the set model answers, AI Speak Tutor analyzes users’ diverse answers and measures similarity to the model answers. It identifies users’ weaknesses, provides hints, and asks follow-up questions to encourage continuous conversation without interruption.
Kim Chang-eun, Executive Director of Digital Marketing and New Business at LG CNS, said, “Starting with the release of the Japanese version of AI Tutor, we are also testing Thai and Vietnamese versions of AI Tutor,” adding, “We plan to expand our overseas market strategy so that Korea’s AI technology can be applied to global English education.”
