Increase of 15 Billion KRW for School Basic Survey District and Additional 2 Billion KRW for Seokchang Continued District Achieved
[Hampyeong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] On the 11th, Hampyeong-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that it secured 17 billion KRW in national funds, including the final designation of the school district as a basic survey district for the drainage improvement project by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.
The drainage improvement project is a project to prevent crop damage by installing disaster prevention facilities such as drainage pumps, drainage gates, and drainage channels in lowland farmland (over 50ha) that repeatedly suffers from crop flooding damage.
Since last year, the county has actively emphasized the necessity of the project to central government agencies and the National Assembly, including the local district lawmakers, to approve the selection of the school district as a basic survey district for the drainage improvement project (15 billion KRW) and the change in the total project cost for the ongoing Seokchang district project (an increase of 2 billion KRW).
Earlier, in August last year, during the flooding damage, the county actively proposed the urgency of the project through status reports and listening to residents’ opinions at the site inspection by National Assembly member Lee Gaeho.
The newly selected school district includes 151ha of farmland in Wolsan-ri, Sageori, and Wolho-ri areas, which have suffered annual flooding damage due to insufficient drainage channel cross-section when Hampyeongcheon Stream and Yeongsangang River water levels rise.
Also, the Seokchang district includes 265.4ha of farmland in Wolcheon-ri, Sannam-ri, and Seokchang-ri areas, which have suffered flooding damage due to sea level rise and insufficient drainage channel cross-section.
The county plans to proceed with follow-up projects once the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs completes the basic plan for the school district.
For the Seokchang district, including the approved increase of 2 billion KRW, a total of 10 billion KRW will be invested, and construction is planned to be completed by 2023.
County Governor Lee Sang-ik said, “Being selected for this project, which is fully funded by national funds, allows us to resolve the long-standing wishes of residents in the habitual flooding areas,” and added, “We will do our best to ensure the project proceeds smoothly through continuous consultation with related ministries.”
