Enhancing Efficiency through Integrated Inventory Management and Use of Robots and Equipment
Kim Ki-moon: "Pursue Innovation and Demonstrate Entrepreneurial Spirit"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bo-kyung] Kim Ki-moon, Chairman of the Korea Federation of SMEs, visited the manufacturing innovation excellent company 'Coas' on the 9th. Coas, which completed the establishment of a smart factory in February, showed results such as a 20% increase in productivity and a 20% reduction in manufacturing waste costs.
This visit by the Federation of SMEs was arranged to promote a virtuous cycle in which the SME sector can grow by spreading excellent cases of innovative companies. Chairman Kim Ki-moon and Senior Vice Chairman Kwon Hyuk-hong attended and shared manufacturing innovation cases. Starting with the visit to Coas, they plan to visit prestigious long-established companies and excellent win-win cooperation companies in the second half of the year.
Founded in 1984, Coas, an office furniture company, was the first in Korea to introduce office automation (OA) system furniture. Currently, it exports to 34 countries worldwide, including the United States, China, and Southeast Asia, striving to grow into a top-tier company.
Coas participated last year in the 'Industry-Specific Specialized Smart Factory Project' jointly promoted by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups and the Federation of SMEs, and completed the establishment of a smart factory in Paju, Gyeonggi Province in February this year.
First, by introducing an 'Integrated Inventory Management System' using smart pads, it became possible to grasp production, inventory, and shipment status in real time between the headquarters and the factory. Through this, results such as a 20% increase in productivity and a 20% reduction in manufacturing waste costs were achieved.
Using the integrated inventory management system, it became possible to ▲process product receipt, grasp and handle real-time packing ▲real-time inventory tracking and daily closing ▲check production line specifications and manage information ▲monitor in real time through a comprehensive production dashboard.
In addition, by introducing a 'Quality Shipment Inspection and Packaging Management System' using image inspection equipment (vision camera equipment) before packaging tops and panels, packaging omissions, shipment errors, and defect detection records were reduced by 15%.
By introducing an automated welding robot for chairs, welding productivity improved by 20%, and standard working time improved by 20% through automated equipment such as fabric cutters and top plate washers, greatly contributing to productivity improvement.
Coas CEO Noh Jae-geun said, "We are striving to raise the optimization of quality, production, and delivery to a higher level through smart factory implementation," and added, "Based on this, we will work to develop Coas's unique competitiveness from furniture to space solutions."
Kim Ki-moon, Chairman of the Federation of SMEs, said, "Like Coas's manufacturing innovation case, I urge small and medium-sized entrepreneurs to pursue constant change and innovation, demonstrate entrepreneurial spirit, and devote themselves to business management without losing hope."
