Only Registered Pets Can Be Vaccinated; Seoul City Supports 10,000 KRW for Internal Animal Registration
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 12th that it will conduct "rabies vaccinations" for pets, including dogs and cats, from the 15th to the 30th to prevent the outbreak of rabies. Since vaccinations are only possible for registered dogs, Seoul will also support "implantable animal registration."
The rabies vaccination can be administered by visiting designated animal hospitals near the residence with the pet from the 15th to the 30th, with the owner only needing to pay a 5,000 KRW procedure fee. To this end, Seoul and local districts will provide 50,000 doses of the vaccine free of charge. However, only dogs that are registered can receive the rabies vaccine support, so if the dog has not yet been registered, this is an opportunity to register the animal as well.
To increase the animal registration rate, Seoul has signed a business agreement with the Seoul Veterinary Association and the General Insurance Association, and has been supporting implantable microchips since 2019. During this period, owners can register their animals by paying only 10,000 KRW.
Park Yumi, Director of the Seoul Metropolitan Government's Citizen Health Bureau, said, "We ask citizens to make sure to get rabies vaccinations for the safety of citizens and the health of their pets," adding, "The most reliable way to protect pets who are like family members is animal registration, so if you have not registered yet, please do so during this opportunity."
