From the 19th, 200 million KRW in city funds invested... First-come, first-served for about 200 households
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 9th that it will promote a renewable energy housing support project that provides citizens who wish to install renewable energy such as solar power, solar heat, and geothermal energy in their homes with up to an additional 1 million KRW in city funds on top of government subsidies.
The renewable energy housing support project is linked with the government's renewable energy dissemination policy and allows recipients to receive both national and city subsidies simultaneously.
This project will invest 200 million KRW of city funds to provide additional subsidies on a first-come, first-served basis to about 200 households selected as government project targets to expand the dissemination of renewable energy.
Accordingly, for the most commonly applied 3kW solar power system, out of the total installation cost of about 4.61 million KRW, recipients will receive 2.3 million KRW from the national government and 1 million KRW from the city, so the applying household only needs to bear 1.31 million KRW.
Support will be available from the 19th until the budget is exhausted, and the eligible applicants are owners or prospective owners of existing or newly built houses as per the building registry or building ledger.
To simplify the application process, Gwangju City posted a list of participating companies selected by the Korea Energy Agency as professional construction companies on the city’s website announcement. Citizens wishing to install can select a participating company on the housing support project website, consult with the company, and apply.
Detailed information can be found in the announcement titled ‘2021 Renewable Energy Housing Support Project City Subsidy Support Announcement’ posted under City News - Notices on the Gwangju City website. For more details, inquiries can be made to the Energy Industry Division.
Hwang Yoon-gil, head of the Energy Industry Division of the city, said, “The renewable energy housing support dissemination project is expected to greatly contribute to reducing electricity and heating costs for installing households as well as improving Gwangju City’s energy self-sufficiency rate.”
