KOSPI Fluctuates Around 3140 Level... KOSDAQ Rises Over 1% [Image source=Yonhap News]

[Asia Economy Reporter Minji Lee] The KOSPI is fluctuating around the 3140 level amid continued net selling by foreigners and institutions.


As of 1:46 PM on the 9th, the KOSPI stood at 3137.65, down 0.17% (5.49 points) from the previous trading day. The KOSPI opened at 3147.51, up 0.10% (3.25 points) from the previous day, but turned downward during the session, falling to the 3120 level.


Foreigners and institutions have increased their net selling since the market opened, selling stocks worth 184.3 billion KRW and 213.5 billion KRW respectively. Individuals were the sole buyers, purchasing stocks worth 395.4 billion KRW.


Among the top market capitalization stocks, Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix fell by 1.18% and 1.74% respectively. NAVER (0.13%), LG Chem (0.12%), Samsung Biologics (1.05%), Kakao (1.64%), Samsung Biologics (1.05%), and Samsung SDI (1.67%) also rose.


Meanwhile, the KOSDAQ index continues its upward trend. At the same time, the index stood at 990.89, up 0.90% (8.87 points) from the previous trading day. Looking at investment trends, individuals who maintained net buying until the morning switched to net selling. Conversely, foreigners who had been net sellers are now net buyers. Foreigners have purchased stocks worth 43.4 billion KRW so far, while individuals and institutions sold stocks worth 10.4 billion KRW and 27.7 billion KRW respectively.


Among the top market capitalization stocks, Celltrion Healthcare and Celltrion Pharm rose by 0.08% and 0.56% respectively. Pearl Abyss (3.22%), Seegene (0.60%), HLB (0.28%), EcoPro BM (0.91%), and CJ ENM (1.42%) also increased.


Seosangyoung, a researcher at Mirae Asset Securities, said, “Despite the strong performance of the US stock market, selling pressure from institutions and foreigners has led to a downward trend,” adding, “It is analyzed that this is due to the negative impact of the surrounding environment, such as the Chinese stock market showing weakness amid US sanctions.”
