[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Choyoung] On the 8th, Cho Eung-cheon, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, stated regarding the crushing defeat in the April 7 by-elections, "I hope those who believe they bear considerable responsibility for the negative evaluation of our party will refrain from running in this internal party election as much as possible."

On the same day, Cho posted on his Facebook under the title "Suggestions for Our Party to Move Forward with Change and Renewal," saying, "The floor leader and party leader to be elected this time are the faces of our party who will manage the presidential primary election until this fall and lead next year's presidential and local elections, which are truly important schedules."

Cho said, "Whether our party is recognized as having vigorously started the engine of change and renewal with a new determination depends on who is elected as the party leader and floor leader," adding, "I am afraid that if someone who bears considerable responsibility for the 'incompetence, hypocrisy, arrogance, and dogmatic attitude' pointed out as faults of our party in this by-election runs for and is elected as floor leader or party leader without any confession or reflection, the public will not acknowledge that our party is truly changing."

He continued, "When declaring candidacy, if there is even a slight part of one's past words or actions that could receive negative evaluation, it would be good to honestly and specifically disclose that first and also explain how they intend to dispel those concerns if elected."

He stated, "If the leadership is formed through the usual internal party election process without going through such a process, the party may be criticized as merely pretending to reflect without any real change, and as a result, even if the symptoms are identified with difficulty, proper treatment may not be administered, leading to suffering from a more severe illness."

Cho also pointed out, "When looking at the voices of reflection coming from our party, I cannot shake the feeling that the content is very brief and abstract," adding, "In most cases, the word 'sorry' is used to gloss over without specific details about the mistakes. This too may indicate that we have not escaped the tiresome inertia of infallibility."
