Recruiting First 40 Participants for 2021 1st Barista Training Course for Residents from 8th to 16th...Supporting Barista Level 2 Certification through Combined Online and Offline Training
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Seongdong-gu (Mayor Jung Won-oh) is recruiting 40 trainees on a first-come, first-served basis for the 2021 1st Barista Training Course from the 8th to the 16th for Seongdong-gu residents.
This year, considering the characteristics of barista education that requires practical lectures using coffee machines, education will be conducted both online and offline in preparation for the daily life of COVID-19.
They plan to appropriately operate theoretical lectures covering basic coffee knowledge and practical lectures including espresso extraction and steaming using coffee machines.
Also, to reduce the hassle of individual preparation for certification exams, trainees will be able to take the certification exam as a group at the training center.
In addition, when outdoor events are held in the region in the future, coffee booths will be set up to provide trainees with on-site experience opportunities, actively supporting them to develop their capabilities as professional baristas.
Furthermore, a special lecture on commercial area analysis will be held for trainees in the advanced employment and start-up class, providing up-to-date employment and start-up information such as trends in the cafe market.
With the recent high demand for coffee and the steady increase in demand for professionals working in coffee-related businesses, residents' interest in barista training education has also been high every year.
Accordingly, the district operates a barista training program to enable employment or start-up in related occupations. Over the past three years, 401 people have completed the program, which mainly includes basic and advanced courses for obtaining the Level 2 Barista Certificate and employment/start-up.
In particular, despite the national disaster situation caused by COVID-19 last year, they achieved a high completion rate of 86% while following quarantine rules, and among them, 48 people, more than 51%, succeeded in employment/start-up or obtaining certification.
The training location is Understand Avenue Power Stand near Seoul Forest Station, and it is operated free of charge with two classes: Level 2 Barista Certificate acquisition or employment/start-up courses (basic and advanced classes).
Applications can be submitted by visiting or emailing through the district website.
Jung Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, said, “I hope this barista training education will be an opportunity for residents to prepare for employment and start-up and realize their dreams of becoming baristas,” and added, “We will continue to actively support residents' jobs and prepare various programs to revitalize the local economy.”
