Sunchon City Sports Council President Lee Sang-dae Announces Four Core Priority Projects

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] The Suncheon City Sports Council (Chairman Lee Sang-dae) held its 3rd board meeting on the 8th and announced that it handled agenda items including the process of establishing the Suncheon City Sports Council as a corporation, an exhibition of records of athletes who have brought honor to Suncheon, the creation of a themed garden with athletes, the promotion of Eup-Myeon-Dong Sports Councils, and major events for this year.

Chairman Lee Sang-dae stated in his greeting that the Suncheon City Sports Council is making steady progress toward the success of its four core key projects.

The first of the four key projects for the Suncheon City Sports Council this year is the progress of incorporation.

Chairman Lee said, “The city sports council is no longer a non-profit organization, and we aim to become a more systematic and organized sports council as a corporation in all articles of association and regulations. We formed a preparatory committee last January, and after completing the procedures by June 8, the newly reborn Suncheon City Sports Council will start from the 9th.”

The second key project is the launch of Eup-Myeon-Dong Sports Councils.

Chairman Lee said, “Although it is specified in the regulations of the Korea Sports Council, the form and composition of Eup-Myeon-Dong Sports Councils have not been established until now. After taking office as the first elected chairman last year, we have been striving to make Suncheon a city where citizens can be healthy. After much consideration, we decided to promote the activation of Eup-Myeon-Dong Sports Councils to create a citizen-friendly sports system.”

He continued, “The city’s sports department and the sports council are collaborating, and we are approaching the founding general meetings of 24 Eup-Myeon-Dong units. Next month, the joint inauguration ceremony and the approval of the heads of sports organizations will mark the first step.”

The third key project is the promotion of e-sports.

Although there are still many shortcomings such as funding, the council expressed its determination to gradually promote e-sports as a blue ocean sport for future sports and regional economic revitalization.

The fourth key project is preparing to win the Provincial Sports Festival to be held in Suncheon next year.

Through the formation of the city’s Provincial Sports Festival TF team and the sports council TF team, the host city Suncheon promises to achieve the overall championship at the Provincial Sports Festival held in Suncheon for the first time in 21 years and to reward citizens with a festive event.

Meanwhile, the board meeting was conducted in strict compliance with COVID-19 quarantine rules.
