[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Daehyun] The hospitalization treatment of Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong, who underwent appendicitis surgery, has been prolonged, resulting in the postponement of his scheduled return to the detention center on the 9th.
According to the legal community on the 8th, the medical staff at Samsung Seoul Hospital, who performed the surgery on Vice Chairman Lee, diagnosed after the surgery on the 19th of last month that "3 weeks of hospitalization treatment" was necessary.
The medical staff indicated that Vice Chairman Lee's condition is worse than initially reported, and recently expressed the opinion that about ten more days of hospitalization treatment at Seoul Detention Center are needed.
The Seoul Detention Center accepted this opinion and decided to monitor the treatment progress until next week and reconsider the timing of his return to the detention center.
Earlier, in January, Vice Chairman Lee was sentenced to 2 years and 6 months in prison and detained in court in the retrial of the "state affairs manipulation" case. While incarcerated at Seoul Detention Center, he was transferred to Samsung Seoul Hospital on the 19th of last month due to a ruptured appendix and underwent emergency surgery.
