[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] On the afternoon of the 8th, the Blue House held a meeting of the Standing Committee of the National Security Council (NSC), strongly condemning the violent acts of the Myanmar military and police and discussing consultations among related countries to resume North Korea-US talks.

The meeting was chaired by Yoo Young-min, Chief of Staff to the President, substituting for Suh Hoon, Director of National Security, who is under preventive quarantine after a business trip to the United States, in relation to the trilateral security chiefs' consultation among Korea, the US, and Japan.

The attendees first strongly condemned the indiscriminate violent acts of the Myanmar military and police and strongly urged an immediate halt to the bloody crackdown, agreeing to continue reviewing additional response measures.

They also agreed to strengthen preparedness to protect Korean nationals and Korean companies operating there, repeatedly recommending the evacuation of Korean nationals residing in Myanmar and actively devising measures to that end.

The attendees also evaluated the recent security situation on the Korean Peninsula and its surroundings, as well as the results of the trilateral security chiefs' consultation, agreeing to closely cooperate among related countries to ensure the prompt resumption of North Korea-US talks.

They agreed to continue diplomatic efforts to ensure that the Tokyo Olympics, scheduled for July, are held safely with thorough quarantine measures and become an Olympics of peace, and to continue necessary measures at the security department level to overcome COVID-19 domestically.
