[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Park Seon-gang] The Gwangju Metropolitan City Agricultural Technology Center announced on the 8th that the first agricultural products have been shipped from the ‘Young Entrepreneur Farmer Incubator Farm,’ established last year to support young people’s pre-startup experience with smart farms.
The Agricultural Technology Center created a total of four smart farm buildings covering 3,536㎡ within a 5,605㎡ area in Yeonsan-dong, Gwangsan-gu, and this year selected four young people aspiring to work in agriculture. They are provided with a systematic education program (32 sessions, 148 hours) to build skills from the basics, including farming knowledge, smart farm operation and management, and business consulting.
The selected young farmers can operate the smart farms for up to two years starting from last month.
The agricultural products shipped this time are mini cucumbers and cherry tomatoes planted by the young entrepreneurs last month. They have been harvested since this week and are being sold (3,000 KRW/500g) through local food markets and direct transactions in the region.
The Agricultural Technology Center is assisting in opening sales channels through promotion and marketing to ensure the agricultural products are sold in a timely manner.
Yang Hee-yeol, Director of the Agricultural Technology Center, said, “We will encourage young and talented individuals to enter the agricultural sector to improve the agricultural workforce structure, such as alleviating the aging trend of farm owners. We will also strive to create a young and vibrant agriculture and rural community by expanding support for young entrepreneur farmers.”
