[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Kim Byeong-nae) is partnering with KEPCO KPS to promote the ‘Creating Life-Respecting Safe Villages’ project to prevent accidents caused by carelessness in rural areas.
According to Nam-gu on the 8th, at 2 p.m. that day, a donation ceremony for 10 million won to support the ‘Creating Life-Respecting Safe Villages’ project was held in the mayor’s office, attended by Mayor Kim Byeong-nae, Lee Gye-seong, Head of Disaster Safety Office at KEPCO KPS, Ban Jeong-hwan, Chairman of Nam-gu Volunteer Center, and others.
So far, Nam-gu plans to establish a cooperative system with KEPCO KPS, Daechon-dong Administrative Welfare Center, Nam-gu Volunteer Center, and Nam-gu Mental Health Welfare Center to promote the Life-Respecting Safe Villages project in earnest.
First, Nam-gu, KEPCO KPS, and Nam-gu Volunteer Center have decided to install pesticide safety storage boxes in about 30 farming households in the rural village of Daechon-dong to prevent accidents caused by safety negligence and carelessness.
This is because pesticides are often used as a means that endangers precious lives in rural areas. The pesticide safety storage boxes are expected to be distributed to Daechon-dong farming households by May.
Along with this, life safety guardian activities will also be carried out.
From next month, Nam-gu Volunteer Center and Nam-gu Mental Health Welfare Center plan to train life safety guardians who will regularly visit households equipped with pesticide safety storage boxes to check on the elderly and conduct life-respecting campaign activities.
In addition, Nam-gu and KEPCO KPS plan to hold an evaluation report meeting around September with related organizations and participants involved in the Life-Respecting Safe Villages project to share the project’s achievements and discuss follow-up management plans.
Mayor Kim Byeong-nae said, “This project has great significance in promoting regional coexistence through cooperation with public institutions relocated to the Gwangju-Jeonnam Joint Innovation City,” adding, “We will make Nam-gu an even better place to live through education, promotion of life respect, and establishment of safety nets.”
