[Asia Economy Yang Nak-gyu, Military Specialist Reporter]South Korea and Indonesia evaluated on the 8th that defense industry cooperation, including the Korean Fighter eXperimental (KF-X) project, symbolizes the strong trust relationship between the two countries.
This has led to speculation that Indonesia is giving a positive signal that it will continue to participate in the KF-X joint development project.
On the same day, Minister of National Defense Seo Wook and Indonesian Minister of Defense Prabowo Subianto held a defense ministerial meeting at the Ministry of National Defense building in Seoul and stated, "Since defense industry cooperation such as the KF-X and IF-X joint development projects symbolizes the strong trust relationship between the two countries, we agreed to work together to ensure that mutually beneficial defense cooperation is actively carried out in the future," according to the Ministry of National Defense.
The Korean fighter project is being carried out in a joint development format between the two countries, with South Korea referring to it as KF-X and Indonesia as IF-X, respectively.
The two ministers also agreed on expanding military education exchanges to strengthen the foundation for enhancing defense cooperation between the two countries. They also decided to strengthen strategic communication by holding a director-level strategic dialogue on diplomacy and defense (2+2) within the year and promptly launching the deputy minister-level "Joint Defense Cooperation Committee" based on the "Korea-Indonesia Defense Cooperation Agreement."
