[Asia Economy Reporter Seongpil Cho] Accomplices who helped Jo Joo-bin (25, detained and indicted), the operator of the 'Baksa Room,' commit fraud were sentenced to prison terms again in the second trial.

The 9th Criminal Appeal Division of the Seoul Central District Court (Chief Judge Jang Jae-yoon) on the 8th upheld the original sentence of 1 year and 6 months imprisonment for Kim (29), who was detained and indicted on fraud charges. The court also sentenced Lee (25), who was indicted on the same charges, to 1 year and 6 months imprisonment with a 3-year probation, the same as the original sentence. The court stated, "There is no illegality in the original judgment due to factual misrecognition, and it appears to be just," and "Both the defendants' and the prosecution's appeals are dismissed."

They were indicted on charges of participating in the process where Jo deceived JTBC President Sohn Seok-hee by saying he would provide information obtained while running a detective agency from April to September 2019, collecting 18 million won, and deceived former Gwangju Mayor Yoon Jang-hyun in August of the same year by promising to compensate for fraud damages, receiving 20 million won. The two were also charged with receiving money from victims by falsely advertising the sale of firearms or drugs on the internet or Telegram messenger under Jo's instructions. In the previous sentencing hearing, the prosecution requested 4 years imprisonment for Kim and 3 years imprisonment for Lee, respectively.
