[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education will conduct the first 2021 elementary, middle, and high school equivalency exams on the 10th.
On the 8th, the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education announced that 4,968 candidates will take the equivalency exam at 14 test centers across the city.
The test centers are ▲ Elementary level: Daeyeong Middle School (1 school) ▲ Middle level: Jingwan Middle School, Eonju Middle School (2 schools) ▲ High level: Wonmuk Middle School, Changdong Middle School, Yonggang Middle School, Jamsil Middle School, Mokdong Middle School, Daebang Middle School, Muhak Middle School, Wolgok Middle School (8 schools). The test center for visually impaired candidates is the Seoul Municipal Nowon Welfare Center for the Visually Impaired.
All candidates must bring their admission ticket and ID on the exam day. For filling out the answer sheet, elementary level candidates should prepare a black ballpoint pen, and middle and high level candidates should prepare a water-based pen for computer use.
The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education is implementing a 'Visiting Equivalency Exam Service' that operates test centers at candidates' homes or welfare centers they use for those with severe disabilities who have difficulty traveling to test centers. This time, Eunji Lee, a bedridden disabled person, will take the middle school equivalency exam at home.
For middle and high level candidates whose exam includes a lunch break, they must also prepare a lunch box and drinking water separately. Due to COVID-19 prevention measures, it is expected that temperature checks and other procedures before entering the test center will take some time, so candidates should arrive earlier than usual. Entry is allowed from 8 a.m.
Parking is not available at the test centers on the exam day, so candidates are advised to use public transportation. Possession of communication devices such as mobile phones during the exam is considered cheating regardless of whether they are used.
The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education has maintained a distance of at least 1.5 meters between candidates and assigned no more than 20 people per test room to prevent COVID-19. To prepare for symptomatic cases on the exam day, an emergency contact system with the responsible health center has been established, and separate test rooms have been arranged at each test center to allow symptomatic candidates to take the exam. All candidates must wear masks on the exam day, and those not wearing masks will not be allowed to take the exam.
COVID-19 confirmed patients and those in self-quarantine can also take the equivalency exam. They can take the exam at a separate test center through prior application, and the application period and method can be found on the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education website. The results of the equivalency exam will be available on May 11 on the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education website.
Cho Hee-yeon, Superintendent of the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education, said, "To ensure the smooth administration of the equivalency exam, please refrain from small gatherings, crowded places, and multi-use facilities until the exam day, and comply with the candidates' precautions for COVID-19 prevention."
