Seoul Metropolitan Council spokespersons Choi Seon and Han Ki-young stated, “We congratulate Mr. Oh Se-hoon on returning to the position of Seoul Mayor after enduring a process of patience and perseverance,” adding, “As the immediate task of ending COVID-19 continues and many citizens, including small business owners and vulnerable groups, face deep concerns, we hope that even within the short term of one year and three months, he can greatly respond to the serious mandate and expectations of the citizens.”

Spokesperson Choi emphasized, “Above all, we expect that this year the vaccination will be completed without delay, and through multifaceted measures, the local economy will be revitalized with close communication between the Council and the Mayor,” adding, “The Seoul Metropolitan Council will also do its best to cooperate and assist with a mindset focused solely on the citizens during the COVID-19 era, and we hope for mature politics based on ‘Gudongjon-i (求同存異)’?seeking common ground while preserving differences.”

Spokesperson Han said, “While we look forward to new changes in city administration, large-scale organizational restructuring may cause ongoing projects to be disrupted or reduce organizational stability,” and added, “We trust that Mayor-elect Oh will sustainably lead key projects that Seoul has pursued over the past decade, such as welfare, care services, urban regeneration, and job creation, and the Council will fulfill its role of monitoring and checking to ensure that projects embodying the philosophy of ‘citizen happiness’ are not neglected simply because they were initiated by the previous mayor.”

Finally, “As you know, Seoul city officials endure heavy workloads but always maintain consistent diligence and pride in working for the nation’s leading city,” the spokespersons said, adding, “Since there have been wounds among Seoul city officials in the past, we hope that during this term, the Mayor will show trust in the officials and demonstrate leadership that encourages and embraces everyone.”
