[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyunjung] A National Tax Service (NTS) official who created a program to determine the complex capital gains tax, which is difficult to calculate even for tax accountants, and introduced a KakaoTalk application service to reduce civil complaint waiting times received the Active Administration Award.

On the 6th, the NTS announced that it selected and awarded commendations to nine 'Outstanding Active Administration Officials' who made efforts to enhance taxpayer convenience. The NTS selected the awardees through public evaluation via 'Gwanghwamun 1st Street' and the NTS Active Administration Committee, which includes external members.

Seol Jeong-ran, the top award recipient and a tax investigator at Seocho Tax Office, anticipated that taxpayers trying to meet the requirements for local government management safety support funds would face inconvenience in correcting their business registration. After active consultations with local governments, she revised the application requirements so that certain industries, such as individual taxi operators, could apply without correcting the business registration address even if it was outside the relevant local government.

Kang Yong-gu, a tax investigator at Buk Gwangju Tax Office, who introduced the KakaoTalk civil complaint certificate issuance application service; Ryu Ja-young, a tax investigator at Uijeongbu Tax Office, who supported simplified reporting procedures for elderly rental income earners; and Park Seong-bae, a tax investigator at the Central Regional Tax Office, who personally developed and distributed a capital gains tax exemption and heavy taxation determination program, were selected as outstanding active administration officials.

Additionally, Son Seong-ung of Buk Busan Tax Office, Jo Seong-jae of Gwangsan Tax Office, Kim Tae-beom of Yeongwol Tax Office, Park Mu-seong of Daegu Regional Tax Office, and Yoo Byung-min of Daejeon Tax Office received encouragement commendations.

The nine outstanding active administration officials will receive special benefits such as monetary rewards, bonus leave, the highest grade in performance pay (annual salary), and additional points in internal performance evaluations.

Kim Dae-ji, Commissioner of the National Tax Service, expressed gratitude to the outstanding officials who proactively performed their duties from the taxpayers' perspective during the difficult times of COVID-19, and urged continued efforts for active administration so that the public can use tax services more comfortably.
