SK Telecom "B2B Enterprise Quantum Cryptography Communication Technology Coming"

Development of 'Quantum VPN' Technology Applied to Enterprise IP Equipment

[Asia Economy Reporter Seulgina Jo] SK Telecom announced on the 6th that the world's best security technology, 'Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) technology,' will be applied to IP equipment and released for business-to-business (B2B) use.


SK Telecom and its subsidiary IDQ have applied quantum key distribution technology to enterprise IP equipment such as routers and switches, and based on this, have completed the development of enterprise 'Quantum VPN technology.' Accordingly, companies without dedicated networks are expected to be able to use communication security services utilizing quantum encryption.


The 'Quantum VPN technology' is a solution that combines enterprise IP equipment security technology with quantum encryption technology, characterized by flexible application to various B2B network structures and services while maximizing security.


SK Telecom plans to continuously develop various methods to link QKD and enhance QKD performance. They will also concurrently review various encryption methods to create a secure communication environment. Previously, they have worked on building smart plants and digital innovation hospitals using quantum encryption communication networks with Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power and Yonsei Severance Hospital, and have decided to actively participate in the 2021 Digital New Deal project.


Ha Min-yong, head of SK Telecom Innovation Suite, said, “This integration has laid the foundation for more B2B customers to experience advanced quantum security,” and added, “We will continue to develop related technologies and collaborate to provide the best security to our customers.”
